I started a school and activity school many years ago with children from all over the world because that felt right. It felt happy and it sure was! We learned so much from one another and so many of us all these years later are still in touch.

This was my dream when I was 6 years old to have a school with children from all over the world and I got to live out that dream. On 9/11 one of our families lost their father who worked at Cantor Fitzgerald. A number of families were home having home visits with their teachers and their lives were saved fortuitously. One of our Dads, a firefighter at 44 was there helping day after day and still suffers with PTSD. So I cry for so many reasons, both personal and because 25 years later we are still filled with such abject hatred.

What are you doing to teach your child about history? What are you doing to teach your child about being the change? We need to teach our children how to turn grief into action.

When you look at schools, find schools that just don't just have diversity, but understand diversity-there's a difference!!!! Is your school talking about diversity honestly? Does your school have real values? Are they invested in change? What do we all have in common? Let's find that!
