Dr. Jill Biden, a teacher herself, feels all books belong in the library because this is America. I heartily agree!
Books take all of us to unimaginable places, we learn new words, we find out about people different from ourselves, we form opinions and we grow. Even if a book is "objectionable", isn't that fodder for discussion?
Books boost intelligence and they unleash the imagination. They also give us the opportunity to read language we don't use anymore, to find out about behavior we no longer tolerate and hear about disrespectful behavior. This is how we grow, we can talk about why we don't like things that once happened, and know we will never repeat it again.
Let your children see you reading, let them see you look up an unfamiliar word and talk about what is in books, good or bad.
